Membership
As a long-term model for governance of higher education, the New University Cooperative has developed four classes of membership. The solidarity cooperative structure ensures equal participation between the key stakeholders that are involved in operating and delivering programming at the university.
A common critique of traditional universities is that the students, staff and faculty are removed from the governing bodies of the institution. Cooperative ownership allows the stakeholders to play a key part in the direction, operations, and maintenance of the university. This will ensure that all interests are adequately represented in the governance of the university, creating an institution that is responsive and proactive to the needs of its members.
