Centre for Alternative Technology

General Summary and Comments:

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) promotes technologies and green living through a variety of different ways: they have a visitor centre open seven days a week, which displays global issues such as energy generation and transport, and practical, everyday solutions for everyone. They have a free information service, and a consultancy service. They have a range of residential courses - from weekends to a yearlong MSc, and they arrange school trips to CAT. CAT also published books on various "green"topics, and has a green store with various products and books, as well as a mail-order service. There is also a small community living at the center.

 

Accreditation:

The MSc in environmental architecture is jointly offered by the The University of East London (UEL) and CAT and examines the relationship between human beings and the environment and in particular offers an ecological perspective on building. Students choose from ten units that are residential courses held at CAT, completed by a 15,000 word thesis. This MSc is accredited by the Energy Institute.

Each course endures from a few days to a week.
Courses run consecutively for 10 months so resident students can take them sequencially as long as they want.

For the MSc, units are held over a period of an academic year.
